YMCA of San Francisco

Graphic Design & Brand Management

Responsible for providing design support to 14 branches and over 120 program sites, much of my time was dedicated to translating marketing objectives, fundraising visions, and seasonal campaigns into compelling design.

In 2011, I played a pivotal role in shaping the YMCA’s rebrand strategy, led by Siegel + Gale, serving as the association’s Brand Ambassador in collaboration with the YMCA of the USA. Duties included upholding brand standards, training staff on design best practices, and empower teams to adopt a new way of voicing the brand mission, values, and benefits within the Bay Area community.

This role provided countless avenues to explore personal and professional development through learning, coaching, and leading.

Events & Signage

I collaborated regularly with the Financial Development Department and Executive Board Members to produce presentations, signage, and print materials colorfully depicting the organization's role in the community for exclusive fundraising events.

Environmental Branding

On a handful of occasions, I partnered with branch executives to support facility renovations in order to meet YMCA of the USA’s brand standards and pass mandatory audits. I worked closely with contractors and vendors to monitor the design and installation process to ensure projects remained brand compliant. During these phases, I honed a knack for building exceptional staff and vendor relationships, along with a deep understanding of how to coordinate and manage environmental branding projects from start to finish.

Better Together

The Y’s renowned reputation for nurturing employee professional development provided me with a unique and rewarding opportunity to learn, mentor and educate peers through training efforts.

With the majority of our marketing teams unequipped to design in-house, I partnered with the IT Department to obtain software to lead courses to formally train staff in design practices. After course completion, staff possessed the skills necessary to design independently through the use of templates and website tutorials with the added bonus of a new peer group to turn to for ongoing workflow support.

It was an honor to own such a dynamic role alongside wonderfully passionate, encouraging, and community-driven leaders.
